Despite several ups and downs, starts and stops, The Lucky Dragon moved out of the “I’ll believe when I see it” file and into the “Hey, I see it!” file. Unfortunately that didn’t last for very long and now it’s in the “what will become of it?” file.
The Asian-themed property, located on Sahara Avenue just west of the SLS Las Vegas is not exactly what you’d call a destination resort. In fact, most visitors to Vegas did not have any good reason to go there unless you were a fan of baccarat or authentic Asian cuisine.
Then the casino and most of the restaurants shut down as the hotel sunk into deep financial trouble. Now there’s no reason to go here unless you want a hotel room – a very cheap one usually – with nothing else to do in the property in which you are staying.
There are only 203 rooms, making it roughly 1/20th the size of most of the hotels on The Strip. The casino, when it was open, was microscopic – only about 20,000 square-feet, which was only about half the size of The Cromwell‘s small casino. Most of that space was taken up with games popular to Asian crowds like baccarat and there were only a handful of slot machines and blackjack tables.
As of the spring of 2018, the hotel is in bankruptcy and foreclosure and all sorts of other drama. So what will become of it? Stay tuned.
