What is it?
One of two country-western bars in town (the other being Charlie’s), the Badlands is less yee-haw and more down home friendly. Yes, they have the obligatory line dancing and cowboy decor, but it’s more of a hangout for friendly locals than a pick-up joint for the Brokeback Mountain set.
Where is it?
At the Sahara Commercial Center on Sahara Avenue, just east of The Strip.
What kind of crowd does it draw?
Mostly locals and mostly guys over 30.
What are the prices like?
Very reasonable. You can have a very drunk night out on $20.
When is the best time to go?
When the line dancing is in full swing.
Why should I go here?
Because you want to be a cowboy. Or be with one.
What else do I need to know?
The Sahara Commercial Center where this bar is located has several other gay establishments including a couple of bars and a couple of, ahem, “health clubs.”
What’s the bottom line?
A basic country bar that probably isn’t worth going out of your way for unless you really want to get your line-dancing on.
