A hip nightclub based on one of the insanely popular New York City nightclub of the same name. It has taken over the spot once occupied by JET.
At The Mirage on the Center Strip.
Hip, trendy, young, and not afraid to show it.
Penny slot players will probably not want to go here.
As with all nightclubs, the earlier you go the better chance you won't have to wait in a long line.
Because you know that 1 OAK stands for "One of a Kind."
There are actually two clubs in one, each playing its own music and with its own ambience.
Getting into the club can be a nightmare experience but once you're inside it's pretty dreamy.
Based on the NYC nightclub of the same name, 1 OAK, which stands for 1 Of a Kind, is a nightlife experience at The Mirage with multiple personalities.
The first personality you experience as you approach the club is practically psychotic, as hordes of young, pretty, dressed-to-kill party people crowd around the entrance trying to get the attention of the obviously battle-scarred doormen. There is a long line that you can wait in, but lots of people ignore that and try to get past the velvet ropes either legitimately ("my name is on the list") or by flashing big enough tips or, perhaps, body parts. The first time I tried to visit the club, the crowd around the door was 20 people deep and I couldn't get in, despite having made arrangements ahead of time. The second time I tried to visit literally just as the club was opening and the crowd was already 10 people deep.
I should stress that while it's not particularly different than most other Vegas nightclubs, it feels different, more desparate, and more exhausting than just about any other club I've been to and I've been to them all.
But if you can make it past that madness, you get to experience the club's second personality, which is the life of the party. The big main room at 1 OAK has two bars, lots of VIP seating, and a bigger than average dance floor. If you remember JET, the club that used to be in this space, not a lot has changed except they knocked down the wall that used to separate the first VIP room and made it into one big area. Yes, the decor is a bit different, but since it's fairly dark inside you probably won't be able to tell.
I liked the vibe in the main room, all upbeat energy and "let's just have fun" happiness. Granted, I was there early and that almost certainly changes as the clamoring crowds waiting outside make their way inside, but even when that's the case you have a third personality waiting for you.
A completely separate room at the far end of the club offers up a different feeling entirely from the main room. It has its own dance floor, DJ, bar, and seating and is designed to provide a counterpoint to whatever is going on next door so if its high energy dance music in the main club, you may find more hip hop beats in here or vice versa. I like to have options wherever I go so to have a second experience you can escape to in a nightclub when the other experience is just too much is a great thing.
Covers and drink prices are insanely high, but not any more so than any other popular nightclub on the Vegas Strip.
I liked the dual personalities inside 1 OAK but just wish I didn't have to deal with the really horrible third one outside.
